Ahren “AJ” Cattles

Ahren “AJ” Cattles is a native of Colorado and has been a resident of Gunnison for 25 years.  He has been designing and building both residential and commercial projects in the Rocky Mountains since the mid-90s.  Starting at an early age, along with his brother and father, AJ began remodeling craftsman homes in the small town of Dolores, CO.  The boys loved to work with their hands and they had a natural talent for putting things together while finding solutions for the challenges that come with remodels.

Following graduation from Western State College in 2002, AJ and his brother started their first construction company.  After 12 years of successful operation, AJ and his brother parted ways.  In 2014, AJ started Big C Builders (BCB).  Today BCB still operates as a custom design-build company, offering project management services for both commercial and residential projects.  In 2017, BCB received the Gunnison Chamber of Commerce’s People’s Choice Award for “Best Builder / Contractor”.  In 2022 BCB completed the largest multi-family building project in Gunnison County consisting of 77 apartments and 80,000 SF.

AJ has served on the Gunnison County Planning Commission for nearly 10 years.  This experience has given him a hands-on education in local development and policy.  He attends Community Church and enjoys living in the Gunnison Valley with his wife, Jaime, and their 4 children.

Jaime Cattles

Growing up as a coal miner’s daughter, Jaime spent much of her childhood moving from town to town.  The best part was getting to set up a new space with each transition.  This carried on into adulthood, while she and AJ ‘fixed and flipped’ several homes in the Gunnison valley in less than a decade.  Once they settled down a bit to raise their four children, it became apparent that she had a desire to continue in the field of design.

Jaime has helped with each BCB project in some capacity since the beginning, and even taken on some projects of her own on the side.  While not a certified Interior Designer, she is self-taught and has years of experience in the field.  Her passions lie in the details that bring a project together; such as choosing the best paint color or selecting the perfect flooring.  Whether a remodel or a new build, it’s a joy for her to help folks turn their houses into homes.

Makenna Sullivan

Makenna grew up in the mountains of California and has always loved spending time outdoors.  Through frequent visits to Colorado, she discovered the attractive outdoor lifestyle and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.  So much so, that she and her husband chose to have a destination wedding among the Collegiate Peaks.  They came to realize that they enjoyed trips to the Western Slope more than time spent in California, so they decided to build a home and raise their family here in Gunnison.

Makenna has over 5 years of experience in the banking industry as a loan officer.  She has also successfully filled various management positions over the years, and currently holds a real estate broker’s license in the state of Colorado.  She is currently the Office Manager for BCB, where she ensures many essential tasks are completed, and she supports the whole team with her administrative skills.  When she is not focused on keeping others organized at the office, you might find her busy creating delicious meals and treats!

CHris Bruggeman

Chris is a Colorado native and began calling Gunnison 'home' in the early 90s.  Since then, he has gained a vast knowledge of various construction trades over the last 30 years.  From concrete to cabinet-making, Chris knows his way around the entire job site.  Chris also has years of experience as a fine woodworker from his days of building custom windows and doors as well as creating tailor-made furniture.

Chris’s specialty is new residential custom home builds, as he has an eye for detail and enjoys seeing the different elements of the home come together.  Because of his hard work and attentiveness to quality, Chris has earned a role in the completion of many inspired spaces in the Gunnison Valley over the years.

Myles Haney

Myles has been involved in the construction industry for 14 years.  His career began in residential construction, while working as a laborer, learning carpentry skills.  He quickly moved into a foreman position, overseeing residential construction projects.  Myles moved on to be a commercial construction foreman, where he was responsible for the oversight of projects with a larger scope.

He started his own residential carpentry business while living in Michigan and was able to gain various skills and talents. Myles was later approached by a traveling general contracting firm, who managed commercial projects.  They invited him to come onboard as an Assistant Superintendent, and Myles accepted the position.  He was able to travel while working for a few years, and he earned himself the position of Superintendent.  Myles oversaw the construction of the new FedEx building in Gunnison Rising.  It was during this job that he, his wife and their young family unexpectedly fell in love with the valley.  In 2022, they decided to stay, and they now call Gunnison "home".
